This last week we have had the pleasure of having a West End Star and X Factor 3rd Place finalist staying here at Grewgrass Lodge. Niki Evans and her team were such a lovely group of people, very professional and a real pleasure to accomodate.

If anyne has the opportunity to go and see Niki perform, you will not be disappointed, she is a fantastic singer and she is a very nice, down to earth person.

Well, thats what they tell me, just taken in about 100 battrey hens who were on there way to that big chicken world in the sky!!

They are here to enjoy a happy, free range life until there final days.... come and see me at Saltburn Farmers Market, September 10th.

Autumn is upon us, we have had a lovely year so far, lots of visitors who are now firm friends! Off to see Georgie Fame tonight(3/10/2010) Ken Dodd next week and then off to Venice for a couple of days.(£40 return flights for two people! How do they do it??)

Our late Autumn early Winter bookings are coming in, we have ONE lodge left for Christmas and New Year so, if your thinking about it.....BOOK NOW!!

Well, Spring is finally here, at least I think its Spring what with all the wet weather, we now have two female ducks with 13 ducklings which include 3 orphan ducks, found abandoned by there mam !(AWWWWH)

We also have a couple of baby Moorhens and lots of winged wildlife are in abundance, our bat boxes,nesting boxes and owl boxes are now up and a few have inhabitants.

Our chickens are still producing, however we are losing a few to old age!

Well hello ! Our daffodils have finally bloomed after such a long, hard winter, TOBY our Shetland pony has recovered from a bad foot, Bruce has recovered after eating rat poison and we are recovering from a horrible winter! But Spring is here and we are all bursting with enthusiasm!! Even our Hens are laying well!

Well, how is this for a famous visitor to Grewgrass Lodge. The world famous 'DULUX' Old English Sheepdog Don and his owners, Alan and Maureen Pearson from Oldham came to stay for this week. An absolute dream. We got his pawprint autograph!!

Had a great evening! Ex Gladiator JET aka Diane Youdale and Neil Green from BBC Radio Tees came for a visit to see our life at Grewgrass. Had a fantastic couple of hours and they recorded their visit here, spoke to our lovely guests from Rotherham and Grantham.

Hello again !

Just got back from holiday, again, Sharm el Sheik in Egypt. Great weather, shame about the food and the Russians! but that's another story!!!

All is well here at Grewgrass Lodge, pond extension is nearly completed, just have to seed the pond surround and its done, just have to keep the chickens off the seeded areas! My old schoolteacher, Quentin, caught his best Roach ever, 1lb 12 ounces! (see photo), our pond also holds a seven ounce Gudgeon, British record is 9 ounces! Also, on an earlier session, our Guest from Lincoln caught our 5lb Ghost Carp

Guests are still plentiful here and they are having a lovely relaxing time, I even took a Lincoln City supporter to the Riverside to watch Middlesbrough V Aston Villa, we need all the help we can get now!!

Paul O'Grady show, London

We also managed a trip to the London Studios where I managed to get hold of some tickets to see Paul Ogrady on his daily show, myself Christine and her mum Joan, had a fantastic time, well recommended.

POND extension !

Hi all ! Our pond extension has been underway over the past couple of weeks, more room for more fish. A local pond owner came up the other day, he had a 8 and a half pound Ghost carp which had grown too big for his pond, duly asked if it could move home so I duly obliged !

Well, the snow fell and covered us all here at Grewgrass, that was Monday ! Now its Tuesday night and its all gone with bright sunshine forecast.

Christine, Gemma and myself have just returned from a few days in London and a day in Bighton on the pier!! It was blooming freezing down there! Had a great time visiting, it was Christines 21st birthday ( she wishes ), had dinner at a really nice Italian in Sydenham.

Bruce had too much to drink though !

Chickens are really doing well despite the dark and dank weather, now getting over 110 eggs a day.

Good Evening All !

Happy New Year to all our visitors past, present and (hopefully) future !

Today Sunday, our hens are now laying regularly, we are getting nearly 100 eggs per day! Thats one bloody big omelette, good for you though. They're still going at £2 a doz, cheaper than the shops and very fresh!

Today we have been to Whitby and been on a cruise ! YES ! A cruise, took me back a bit to when I was sailing ............. anyway, this was the River Esk in Whitby Harbour, blooming cold but we watched some seals frolicking and had a nice cup of Cappucino and Latte on the harbourside.

Now its back home, lock up the girls safe and sound, put the coal fire on, feet up etc etc.

Christmas is nearly here ! David's now got a broken toe after trying to eject a chicken from the house ! But the ladies are repaying us with over 84 eggs per day now !! Not bad for the Winter.

Calamity Tuesday !

Well !!!!
What a day at Grewgrass ! Our new shower being fitted is the wrong type, so we have to change it , there are no wall coverings, shower unit because David got the arrangements wrong....and we have guests in at 3pm !!
Also, our photographer for our Christmas Picture is coming at 3pm , its 2.30 and I'm in B and Q !

THEN, Christine goes to put the lights on in one of our lodges, trips over the path, does a commando roll, ends up with a cut under her eye ! Her ego is still OK though.

THEN, as we shoot the photo, I have hold of the Pony and Bruce the dog,Christine has hold of a chicken, the pony moves, knocks me over, into the spindles of the decking breaking a couple and knocking plants flying !! Christine and the photographer are on the floor crying with laughter !!

I'm now having a drink ( or two) and going to bed !!

A NOT so lazeee Sunday at Grewgrass !

Phew !

Busy day here at Grewgrass ! Weather is freezing cold but clear blue skys and sunshine, ground is frozen though. Sorted out the new electric fence for my girls, got to keep them in check you know ! ( the chickens, not Christine and Gemma )Also, demolished the old bathroom in Lodge 1 nearest pond, new shower unit going in on Tuesday.

All the decs are up, all LED lights and even a Christmas tree.

On a more serious note, a young yobbo threw a rock and hit our Jeep whilst travelling on the duel carriageway yesterday, he threw it from a walkway over the Parkway so had the Police taking statements and Scenes of crime taking pictures !
It all goes on here you know !!!!

Our new 21 week old chickens are taking their time to find their way home after being set free! Having to catch up over 30 birds each afternoon, not the brightest of creatures, trying to force their way THROUGH the fence rather than go through a gate!
Worse than kids!
Anyway, putting them on a daily training course on how to go to roost safely! Still, the eggs will be nice !

Riverside and Homeside

Just got back from the Riverside watching Middlesbrough v. Newcastle United, very cold. Result was OK, a nil nil draw, but the Boro were the better team !

On the way back in, saw two things 1. A Tawney Owl on the driveway in my headlights, holding a mouse like animal ! Fantastic. 2. The glow of the log fire in our house !
Now its X Factor !!

Lazy Wednesday afternoon ...!!!

Wednesday afternoon, just finished adding some double glazing to the bedrooms and bathrooms of both Natalie and Gemma (thats what we call our lodges, after our daughters !) Looks very nice!

New shower unit ready to go into our lodge next to the pond.

Just had our VisitBritain inspection, we continue our 3 Star rating ! This to go with our Silver Award for Green Tourism .

Last week, our new arrivals came, 90 18 week old chickens! We'll have eggs coming out of our ears soon!

The 2008 season is coming to a close at our picturesque holiday retreat. Our new seasons tariff is now available and this year we have decided that there will be no price increases during the school holidays!
